                        Privacy Policy

Effective Date: 28/07/26 · Last Updated: 29/07/26

1. Information You Provide

Whisperbox lets you seal text, images, links, or text files inside a GIF, and reveal content previously sealed inside a GIF. The actual sealing and revealing is performed entirely within your own browser and never leaves your device. Before text or an image is sealed, however, it is briefly sent to our automated screening system (see Section 1a) so it can be checked against our content rules.

1a. Automated Content Screening

To keep the Website safe to use, text and images you submit for sealing are checked by an automated screening system before the seal completes. This includes a filter for hate speech and slurs, and a check for images against known databases of illegal content. Content is processed briefly for this purpose and is not retained afterward, except where we are legally required to preserve and report a match to the relevant authorities. If your content is flagged, your access to the Website may be permanently and immediately blocked without warning, and where required by law, a report may be filed with the appropriate agency.

2. Information We May Collect

Because the Website is served over the internet, some limited information is generated automatically as part of normal web traffic — for example your IP address, browser type, device type, and approximate access times. This is standard for any website; it isn't something Whisperbox itself specifically collects or has access to beyond what's inherent to serving the page[, and to cloudflare the host of this website].

3. User Content

We do not claim ownership of, and cannot access, the text, images, links, or files you process using the Website. You remain solely responsible for your content and for ensuring you have the legal right to use and hide it.

4. Local Browser Storage

The Website stores two small pieces of information in your browser's local storage, on your own device only:

  • A flag recording that you've seen the introductory disclaimer.
  • A counter used to generate unique filenames for downloaded GIFs.

Neither of these is sent to us or to any third party. You can clear them at any time by clearing your browser's site data.

5. Fonts

The Website loads typefaces from Google Fonts. This causes your browser to request font files directly from Google's servers, which may expose your IP address to Google. Google's handling of that information is governed by Google's own privacy policy. If we bundle fonts locally in future, this section will be updated accordingly.

6. Cookies and Advertising

The Website does not currently use cookies, third-party analytics, or advertising. If that changes in future, this Privacy Policy will be updated to describe what's used and how you can control it.

7. Third-Party Services

We may rely on a hosting or content-delivery providers to serve the Website's files to your browser. Such a provider may process limited information (such as your IP address) as part of delivering the page. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of any third-party service outside our control.

8. Security

We use reasonable measures to help keep the Website secure, but no website or internet transmission can be guaranteed completely secure. Because sealing and revealing happen locally in your browser, the security of your own device and browser is an important part of keeping your content private.

9. Data Retention

The finished, sealed GIF is processed and stored only on your own device, for as long as you keep the browser tab open or choose to download the result — we do not receive or retain it. Content submitted for the automated screening step described in Section 1a is handled only long enough to complete that check and is then discarded, except where a match to prohibited content requires us to preserve it for a legally required report. Any technical logs generated by our hosting provider (see Section 2) may be retained by that provider for reasonable operational and security purposes.

10. Children's Privacy

The Website is not intended for children under the age of 17. If we become aware that personal information has been collected from a child under this age in violation of applicable law, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

11. International Users

If you access the Website from outside the United Kingdom, be aware that any technical information generated by your visit (see Section 2) may be processed in a country with different data protection laws than your own.

12. Your Rights (UK GDPR)

If UK data protection law applies to you, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you, to object to certain processing, and to request portability of your data. Because Whisperbox does not receive or store the content you process, most of these rights have limited practical application to your sealed or revealed content, which never reaches us. Where they do apply — for example, to technical logs — you may contact us using the details below. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you believe your data protection rights have been infringed.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy at any time. The updated version will be posted on the Website with a revised effective date. Continued use of the Website after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
